CAN Taraba State Branch Tough on Incessant killings in Takum and Ussa LGA's

PRESS RELEASE BY THE CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA, CAN TARABA STATE ON THE ATTACKS BY FULANI MILITIA ON INNOCENT PEOPLE IN TAKUM AND USSA LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREAS OF TARABA STATE
Protocol:

The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN Taraba State Chapter has observed with dismay the series of attacks and onslaught going on for some times along the Takum and Ussa local government areas of Taraba State by suspected Fulani militia.

No doubt the attacks which has been taken place unabating, has resulted in the death of many innocent people while several commuters also fall victims.

It is disheartening that same Fulani militia who have been killing people and of recent Soldiers including the Commanding Officer of the 93 Battalion of the Nigeria Army in Takum, can still return within shortest time and attack innocent communities while Federal Government folds it arm as if it does not exist.

CAN want to ask why were the security check points mounted along that axis (Mararraba -Takum road) removed prior to the attacks. Where are the security Men, why were they withdrawn, who withdrew them, and for what reason?

CAN is not please with the attitude of the Federal Government towards the security situation of the country where only lips service is the order of the day without any serious commitment. Its  high time that the Federal Government of Nigeria led by President Muhammadu Buhari, begin to match words with action in the areas of security so as to save the nation from eminent collapse. Government must be truthful in its action against terrorism and banditry so as to win the fight.

The attack on innocent communities stands condemnable and unacceptable. CAN cannot fold it arm and watch innocent people killed. If government cannot guarantee the security of the people then the people should be allowed to protect themselves.

CAN also expressed dismay that despite repeated calls on the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA to alleviate the suffering of the displaced.

The 1994 graduating class of Federal Government College (FGC) Wukari, Taraba State, has donated a modern water facility to the school for the use of both staff and students. This initiative was driven by the rising concerns over poor water supply in the college. The project, brought to fruition through the contributions of the 1994 alumni who have since established themselves in various fields, was officially handed over to the school management on August 24, 2024, by representatives of the class. Speaking at the handover ceremony, Professor Shishi Zhema, the current Vice-Chancellor of Kwararafa University, Wukari and a member of the 1994 class, reflected on their experiences as students at FGC Wukari. "When we were here, water was a significant challenge for us. We had to go to great lengths just to access clean water. That’s why we felt that addressing the water issue is a major priority for FGC and its host community. ...
