The Southern Taraba Academics Forum (STAF) has seen a new face of leadership at the national level as Assoc. Prof. David A Agbu Esq of Nasarawa State University, Keffi bows out of office as the National President and handover power to Assoc. Prof. Rimamde U Joel MBBS of the Taraba State University, Jalingo (TSUJ).
The event held at the Multipurpose Hall of Kwararafa University, Wukari-Taraba State under the chairmanship of Prof. Sunday P. Bako VC, Taraba State University, Jalingo (TSUJ) witnessed a marmot turnout of distinguished academics who are indigenous people of the zone.
Delivering his welcoming address, the Taraba State University Vice-Chancellor Prof. S P Bako said, it is a thing of joy to have great academics of the zone coming together under one umbrella to discuss and look for possible ways out of the many challenges facing the zone and to also encourage themselves on career personal developments.
He said, the modern day reality in the academia requires a holistic approach by every academics because some of the basics culture of the educational system are fast fading and lecturers must stand tall to maintain the integrity of the profession. Stressing that it is important they put more efforts in book publishing and quality journal publications that proofers solutions to the many societal problems.
On his handing over note, Barrister Agbu accounted for his dogged efforts in bringing the forum to this very end and prayed for unity, progress and the general growth of the forum. Adding that just between 2021 and 2022, about 20 members of the forum were elevated to the professorial cadre in the various Nigerian Universities and also more than 10 members completed their doctor of philosophy degrees (PhD'S)respectively.
In his inaugural address, the newly elected National President of the association, Assoc. Professor Joel U. Rimamde accepted the responsibility reposed on him with utmost humility and gratitude to God who's the giver of all that's good and pledged to work seriously hard to continue with the remarkable legacy of the Agbu's led national leadership.
He outlined timeline of events that going forward, the forum would be embarking on, which included: scholarship opportunities, research grant opportunities, scholarly publications and employment/promotion opportunities to members would be taking with much attention. Finally, he solicited for members' support and prayers in other to smoothly run the forum to its desired successes.
Dignitaries at the event included Prof. Shishi Zhema the Ag. VC Kwararafa University Wukari-Taraba State who was the host, Prof. Anthony Barau and Prof Elijah Akombo both of the TSUJ and othe very senior academics from the zone attended the summit.
